| X | MESSENGER-DISABLE is a utility that will allow you to disable Windows Messenger (nothing to do with MSN messenger) on per-user basis, or on a machine wide basis. Download the ZIP file and extract MessengerDisable.exe to your hard drive. You can either double click the EXE file, or create a shortcut to it, as you prefer. You can, optionally, use this utility to remove Windows Messenger from your machine. You may need Administrator level privileges to run this program. Note: If you choose to uninstall Windows Messenger on a system with SP1 installed, you will receive an error message about "un-registering" an OCX file. | X | X | SHOOT-THE-MESSENGER The Windows "Messenger Service" is being exploited to spray the Internet with unsolicited commercial eMail. The receipt of a single UDP packet can cause a "Messenger Service" dialog to pop-up on the user's screen. It is possible for the sender to "spoof" (falsify) the packet's "Source IP", making these packets impossible to trace back to their origin. The first thing to understand is that the Windows Messenger Service is completely different from, and not in any way related to, "MSN Messenger", "Windows Messenger", or any other well-known instant messaging system. Therefore, disabling the Windows Messenger service will have no effect upon your use of any other instant messaging applications. They will continue to work without trouble. Windows NT, 2000, and XP hide an hidden Internet server that is running by default. It receives and accepts, among other things, unsolicited network messages that cause pop-up dialog boxes to appear on the desktop. Internet Spammers have discovered this and are spraying pop-up Spam across the Internet. The Windows Messenger server should never have been running by default, and Microsoft has finally fixed that in Windows 2003, but users of previous Windows need to take responsibility for this themselves. | |||

BHODemon gives you a quick look at the BHOs installed on your PC, tells you whether a specific BHO is known to be safe or harmful, and gives you the ability to enable or disable individual BHOs with a single mouse click. NOTE: If you have Windows XP with SP2 use your internet browser, click on Tools, then on Manage Add-Ons... A program like BHODemon is already available -- this is for all the sad others that need it to fix their systems. |

DEAR PIRATE To download music from other individual folks is full of problems ranging from volume, extra noises, virus, incomplete, to lack of quality. To download commercial software from other folks is placing your computer in peril, danger, and just a bad idea. But -- music can be legal and usually under 5 cents a song from ALLOFMP3. It is a Russian site. If it fails to load in English then go most of the way down the page and click on the British or US flag.
