You Can Have Humor While Using the Internet  -- But You Have to Want It

PLEASE GO THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PAGE
YOUR REAL HUMOR PLUG-IN IS RIGHT HERE

Some Thoughts and Understandings Will Go a Long Way !!

Free Things THAT are Advertised ARE NOT FREE!  Many good free things exists -- but who is going to advertise something that is free without a hitch involved somehow.  These are malware items.  Malware, is a program or item that has embedded spy or hacker items.  The advertising gives the clues -- look at me, see how cute I am, look at what I can do for you and I am FREE -- get me, get me, get me.  A page or pop-up that tells you that your computer is infected and you need to get this to fix it such as Reg Cleaner or Win Fixer has killed many computers lately.

Do NOT Pirate Music/Movies/Software!  The program you found to do it is MALWARE!  How do you think they provide the program and method to do it without a lot of money coming in to pay for it!  Peer-to-Peer connection is what it says it is -- You can connect to another persons computer and they can connect to yours -- with your already granted approval.  Evil people do evil things and you are allowing them easy access.  Lower on this page I will show you how to get these at very low prices -- do not pirate.

Do Not Click IWON, Congratulations, or Spank Monkeys!!  Let us pretend 20 million users are on the internet at any one time -- you are looking at a graphic put on a web site by a sleezy webmaster interested in a penny per click.  Do you think you won -- you did -- you just got free code stuck on your computer to do some !#$%.

Do Not 2-Click Anything on the Internet!  Always only 1-Click anything on the Internet!  A web page may have an embedded computer program that it just put on your computer.  Things on your computer are 2-click to initiate.  Do not help a hacker get their stuff on your computer.

Know What ActiveX Means!  Only Accept ActiveX from known reputable web sites.  ActiveX controls can make browsing more enjoyable by providing video, animated content, and more. These programs can, however, malfunction or give you content you don't want. In some cases, these programs can be used to collect information from your computer in ways you might not approve of, possibly damage data on your computer, install software on your computer without your consent, or allow someone else to control your computer remotely. Given these risks, you should only install these programs if you completely trust the publisher (the web site folks).  ActiveX is an Internet Browser Plug-in (Add-on).  Many Folks have ugly ActiveX already on their system and their internet speed is death-warmed-over S-L-O-W.  Lower on this page I will show you how to look and see what you have and a method to fix it.

Know a Bit About JAVA, JS, & Applets!  Here it is -- a script file that enhances the page you are on while playing around on the internet.  Up above I told you what internet browser you used to see this page, what your operating system is, and if you have JAVA turned on or off (Enabled or Disabled).  Just above that box I told you exactly which version of JAVA you are using -- I COLLECTED this information off of YOUR computer.  I did not steal your identity, destroy your privacy, harm your computer, but I did show you I could have.  Lower on this page I will show you how to protect yourself and your computer from going to known evil places.

Attachments Are Dangerous!  Chat & E-mail both do attachments & YOUR FRIENDS ARE THE ONES SENDING THEM TO YOU -- STRANGERS DO NOT KNOW YOUR ADDRESS!  Evil comes from your friends/family members infected (virus/hacked) computer.  Sure you want to open it -- then do so -- just do it the right way.  Do not be a woodpecker and click it (open it), instead, save it to a file to the desktop.  Once it is on the desktop and easy to find, then RIGHT-MOUSE-CLICK it one time and a menu item offers a choice to Scan for Virus.  If it passes the virus test -- the danger level is a bunch lower.

Protect Yourself From Evil Doers!  A Virus is NOT the only threat.  Malware is over 373 thousand.  Norton Anti-Virus protects an amount just over 72 thousand.  If you have a "router" then run your setup again and this time put a password to enter and change the setting on it.  Get some software to keep your computer clean of spy, hacker, key-loggers and viruses.  Examples of cleaning malware are:  Ad-Aware & SpyBot  and STOPzilla which catches things as they happen.  Examples of visus cleaning and prevention are: Norton and Free-AV.  Microsoft has a DEFENDER that was originally written by the Giant Folks that rates as okay and free. Another excellent option is EWIDO which is a scanner and preventer -- they recently merged with Grisoft which is an excellet name in the Anti-Virus field.  Get a Firewall.  If you have Windows XP the one built into it is okay.  Not actually a security item for an annoyance fixer is FREE SURFER because it kills those awful pop-up windows.  Then and again, avoid evil places -- see lower on this page.

Get a Real E-Mail Service!  IF you always get a bunch of attachments and/or SPAM then get a quality E-Mail service to remove the SPAM and virus check the attachments before you see them.  One of the best services is FASTMAIL

Avoid Evil Places!  Don't look for hacker tools.  Don't look for pirate tools.  HOWEVER, do go to the McAfee web site and get their free Site Checker.  When you search on Google, Yahoo, or MSN -- the site checker tells you which sites are safe or not.  If you are a lady quilter looking for patterns you will get harmed without this little jewel helping you.  This is considered a MUST HAVE for every internet user.

Never Go to a NUMBERS Only Web Site!  Example:  http://789.456.123  This is a devil that is so cheap they do not want to pay the $35 a year to even pretend they are real.  This is a teen age hacker wanna-be that the parents are unable to control.  Those numbers spell T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Keep Your Windows CRITICAL Updates Current!  A CRITICAL update is actually a security update.  A little yellow shield in the tool tray pops up when a new CRITICAL is available to get.  Do NOT use automatic to get them -- it DOES NOT WORK AUTOMATICALLY -- many are skipped.  Set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them."  Right mouse click "My Computer", and select "Properties".  Click on the Automatic Updates tab and make the correction -- OR -- go to the Windows Update site and get all of the EXPRESS (not Custom) CRITICAL updates available.

Windows XP Updates!  Keep the CRITICAL and the SERVICE PACKS up to date.  The "recommended" on the Microsoft site -- read the description and decide if you even care.  No horse ever became a champion with only 3 working legs.  If it can't stand -- it will fall.  If you do not have service pack #2 by now -- your computer is in fact in dire need of repair.  Even SP#2 has 59 additions at the time of this writing.

Get Security Before You Crash!  Farmers do not build fences to keep the cows out.  Above are some ideas of what to do, examine them, do they fit your needs, if so -- do it!

Don't Get Fooled!  The Buzz Word is PHISHING!  Pretend the email from your bank, AOL, PayPal (etc.) says you need to change your password.  The message looks absolutely real and the addresses look absolutely real.  If you click on it -- this may happen:
it sent you to a fake site -- it looks real but it is not.  They want you to think so -- after you provide the information your money and identity is NOW THEIR MONEY AND IDENTIFY.  (The yellow shows the page looks do not match the page you see.)

Disconnect From the Internet When You Are Done for the Day!  If you have your computer running & you have high speed internet -- YOUR computer is still "ON" the Internet.  Give even a teen age hacker enough time and they WILL find their way on to your computer ultimately.

Use Proper Passwords!  Use a different password on EACH different service.  Your password at the bank and the one to your email account SHOULD NOT be the same.  Which do you wish more to go wrong -- loss of your money or privacy?  A password should include letters and numbers.  Passwords for FINANCIAL areas should be changed often -- but at lease once every 2 months.

Back-Up Your Data!  Family Tree information, tax records, checking records, pictures, music, business files & you name it.  When it is gone -- it is GONE!  Hardware crashes, electric power line surges, lightening, storms, or perhaps your glass of tea fell over -- Oops!

ADD-ON (ActiveX) for BROWSER Windows XP

Windows XP SP2 contains many security enhancements and feature additions. One of the important feature addition in Internet Explorer is Manage Add-ons. This is a great feature of Internet Explorer, which was implemented by the developers after reviewing the Windows Error Reporting logs. It has been noted that third-party add-ons contribute to the majority of Internet Explorer crashes. This is very true as we are seeing a lot of error messages, new DLL module names and many new malware emerging day by day. The following is for Windows XP users that have Service Pact #2 (SP2) on their computers.  If you do not have SP2 and you are a Windows XP user then your computer has already needed to come in for a full repair.  For those not using Windows XP then ignore the following and get a BHO checker to clean your system.  Go to CASTLECOPS web site then:
click on Tools and select Manage Add-ons.  A box like this
will appear.  For practice only 1-click any item you see in the box and notice the Enable/Disable buttons.  If you disable, it will go to the top box, now 1-click it in the top box and select the Enable.  Click the OK each time and you will see you can Enable or Disable easily.  When you Disable, the computer does not remove it -- it only puts a CLASS IDENTIFICATION number in front of that item to simply tell the browser not to run it when starting the browser.  This picture shows many evils and it is very like what we repair folks see normally on user computers.  Note that Windows Messenger is Disabled -- it should be -- it is only for corporate computer administrators to use.  Now that you know what is loaded on your computer you can use the Castle Cops pages to see if what you have is GOOD or EVIL.  Dah -- Disable the evil ones for now!  Restart your browser when done -- Ah, it is much faster and happier.  Hint -- web search items are automatically evil.  Most toolbars are evil. Things like SDHelper, Free Surfer, McAfee, Norton (NAV), Sun, and Adobe are usually not considered evil.

I promised you Humor.  I delivered.  A last thought.  Do not consider part of the world as evil - think of it as all evil, and you are reducing the threat to less than 1% to safeguard yourself.  Soldiers use weapons to keep the peace!  Your humor reward is a good internet experience, low troubles, high speed play, and no reason to visit me.

More About JAVA, Enhancements and Cheaper Prices

Yes you can opt to not load any Java or Enhancements or ActiveX (BHO - Browser Helper Objects).  That does make it more secure.  Some web sites will even tell you to do this -- that is their opinion and mine says that is a Dinosaur size Cow Patty.  If this is the plan then throw the computer in the trash and save money on the electric bill as a bonus.  Enhancements, some software tools to help you, being a bit security oriented and you can have fun and significantly reduce the threat to an acceptable level.  Load the enhancements and ignore the rest -- well, I have never seen Turkeys ever fly with the Eagles.  Please do not pirate -- that is the second most dangerous thing to do.  For music a great share of the "world" gets it from ALLOFMP3 because it is legal, and for an MP3 at 128 sample rate it costs only 2 cents a song.  Cheaper prices -- Dah -- you can shop the entire world over the internet.  The ALLOFMP3 site is in Russia.  Movies at a low cost, how about AMAZON or EBAY for new/used DVD movies.  Software the same as movies.  Actually, don't forget the local stores may carry used software or "previewed" movies at a much cheaper price.  Casino sites are brutal.  The webmasters are ONLY interested in how to make money.  They even lease off-shore oil platforms to not be under any national laws so they can do what they do.  They are the lowest slime on the planet.  They will give you a virus if someone will pay them to do it.  Your Grandma will tell you -- "You can never con an honest man."
